Day 7
I saw on the ICA website that there was a preview screening of "The Girlfriend Experience" there tonight so decided to go along. I heard about it a while ago in a film magazine or newspaper, the main focus on it having a porn actress (Sasha Grey. And yes, I have seen her work) in the leading role. But it was also directed by Steven Soderbergh, who's films I find are hit and miss. He's done some good but also some bad, and both can be proved with films beginning with the word "Ocean's" ending with a number.
So I got to St. James's Park station. A few weeks ago I had seen a documentary about Art Deco buildings and 55 Broadway, the HQ of LUL (London Underground Limited), was one of the buildings, so I went and took a good look around. I didn't go into the offices as everyone was leaving at that time, but armed with my staff pass I will do at some point.
I walked over to the ICA 2 hours early and I sat down with a paper and a cup of £2.50 tea. It was nice but still, £2.50 - steep. I read a bit, tried the crossword and then saw the film.
It was interesting to begin with. I do like how Soderbergh can film something that seems quite real but very glamourous at the same time. It always looks like showbiz, everything is clean, sleek and modern, very classy, but it almost looks real. Aspirational cinema perhaps?
The film dragged as it went on with no emotional tie from scene to scene. That could have something to do with the scattered narrative. At times I was confused as to whether it was linear or not. I didn't think it was but there was a succession of linear scene which made me rethink, and that's when I got confused when the timeline jumped again. Also there wasn't much point that I could tell from telling the story in this scattered form. I think it was more an attempt to give the film an edge rather than for any dramatic purpose.
Soderbergh made this in between Che and The Informant, quickly and on a low budget. I like the low budget thing, but there I am slightly bias, but the rest of it wasn't very good.
The plan was to see another film called "Examined Life" but that'll be on again next week and I got hungry so I came home and ordered my dinner. Along the way I kept thinking I should cook more often and about my future.

Last night I went to G-A-Y with Jo (Cafcass), Paul (Barnardo's), and Tracy (Wellcome Library).
Seriously, if I only liked men, that place would be the best thing in the world!
As it is, it's just a pretty damn good bar.
Drinks prices were low, allowing us to have about 8 each, and there was enough Agnes, Magnus, and BEN played over the course of the night for me to adequately potentially embarrass myself with my knowledge of semi-obscure pop :p
Before this I went to Nando's where I cashed in my free whole chicken.
This was the first time Paul had been to Nando's since about 2 years ago when the staff were very rude to him and his friends, resulting in them leaving in a bad mood, and Paul hating Nando's.
I think he's now semi-converted to the Nando's way, and like me, he thinks extra hot really isn't different from any of the others.
Waiting at the counter, I went to pick up a Nando's loyalty card for Paul. I grabbed one, and saw it had stamps in it *yoink*.
The card's filled beyond the free half point, but with the free half box unstamped.
That's a chicken and a half for me =D
As I said at the time, and have said before, I think I generate enough word of mouth and custom to the Nando's brand to justify petty theft of their food :p
The birthday week and weekend turned out very expensive. Somehow managed to throw £110 on what I can only imagine was food and drink. Big ouch, but it was an awesome long weekend, and I'd previously decided not to look at my bank balance until Monday.
My Paypal peas meant that I was still able to pay my rent and bills bills bills, so at least that's the essentials covered.
The next 3 weeks are going to be pretty rough, but what's new? At least I had a good birthday, and I have the security of knowing that I'll be better off each month come January when payslip deductions for money I borrowed in January 2G9 stops :}
I have few plans for this week.
Going to see Bunny and the Bull tonight. It'll either be random and rubbish (as the trailer suggests), or random and genius. Shame I won't get any time to smoke a joint before watching it though :p
At the weekend I want to go to see a couple of Christmas films back-to-back. Need to make sure Annabel signs up for her Cineworld card this week!
I've seen 58 different films at the cinema so far this year, and want to make it a nice round 63 by the new year. Shouldn't be too hard :}

Day 2
Still not feeling too happy so decided to finish off editing The legend of Mattress. I went back to my Mum's to sleep over as Day 3 would involve an early wake up call to get to Mile BellEnd for another "Big Family" performance (the show my brother is in) filming. Whilst back at my Mum's I was told she was going on holiday for a week to Tenerife and I played some Wii Sports Resort. Some of it was quite fun, like the swordplay, and some of it was quite relaxing, like the airgames.
Day 3
8am wake up and travel to Mile BellEnd to film the performance. It went well and I feel like I know what I'm doing with all the footage now. Also had a chat with the theatre group to discuss exactly what want out of the edits. Had lunch with a few members of the group and then went home to put The legend of Mattress onto a DVD ready for the Pikey Party.
Later I went to the party and it was super fun time. Didn't know if I was going to stay over and ended up not, taking the night bus home at 2:30am.
Day 4
Another early wake up, but not as early, about 11am to get to Wetherspoons for breakfast. I got there and there was just me for about 15mins. Chris, Roy and Rachel eventually arrived and we had breakfast. After that Roy and Rachel left, Chris and I went back to his place where we waited for the rain to stop and uploaded the first part of legend of Mattress. We left and met up with Christian and Annabel to go to Nandos 11 in Houndslow. It was rainy. The food was good for me but the place wasn't all that great. 3Gs.
Later we went back to Chris's and we played 1v100 for a while until some people, including me, fucked off home and others went to Park Royal.
I came home and spruced up the credits for another export. I spent the night watching over legend of Mattress and feeling quite proud of what we had achieved. I am now optimistic that future projects will go ahead. All negative thoughts about budgets and shit like that seem like no obstacle and it was almost like I resolved to making amateur stuff forever with people I like working with. During the process I'm not sure what it was that got to me but looking back now I remember how fun it was and see it in it's completed form reminds me of that. That's the way it always is though, at least in my experience*. And the ploughing forward approach that we had part of why I think what we've come up with in "legend of Mattress" is so good. More to follow.
After that I watched episodes of shows I'd seen before, like South Park, before realising what a fucking waste of time that was and went to bed.
Day 5
Another early start. What the fuck is wrong with me? It was worth it though as I was meeting my Mum and brother on Oxford Street as it's family week at Uniqlo and after 5 years I have a new coat. I also bought some socks because I've been throwing out ones I have with holes in them and I'm running out.
Then we went for lunch. We couldn't really think of anywhere so ended up going to Wagamama, the one behind Selfridges. It was pretty awful. It's either just that branch or the whole thing is going downhill. I think the latter from the last few times I've eaten there.
After that I met Rachel at South Kensington where we took the Circle Line all the way round twice, once on the outer rail and once on the inner rail (clockwise and anti-clockwise respectively). I've already done it twice already, both times spent reading. Rachel wanted to do it before the timetables change on 13th Dec. The only place you'd be able to do it from then is Edgware Road.
That took just over 2 hours and from South Kensington we took the bus towards the Dyke (Montague Pyke) we were met up with Chris and Roy for a drink before "As It Occurs to Me". Stel and Jo also joined us before their trip home. We said goodbye to them and went to see Herring where I plugged legend of Mattress when he asked the audience for stories (there's a comment from someone who was there on part 1 now!).
Day 6
The credits needed to be changed in part 2 again but I was really tired and stayed in bed until about 1pm. I changed the credits, exported it, all of which took 2 hours for some reason, and then started uploading it. That took 6 hours, thank you ISP. During that time I keep myself occupied by going out and buying dinner (steak and some veg, milk for tea, crisps and haribo for snacking on), cooking dinner, eating dinner, watching "My Summer of Love" and "Irreversible". Now it's all finished. Take a fucking look!
---
Day 7 is for laundry, tidying up, vacuuming the carpet, watching more DVD's.
Day 8 is for Christmas shopping with my brother. We always go halfsies on all presents. Also buying a PS3
Day 9 is for some hardcore gaming.
Day 10 is for more filming.
---
I've not had a haircut yet. Might do that tomorrow.
I've also not been to the cinema for weeks. I think the last time was 4th Nov!
Happy December everyone!

*I got a little bugged by what could be called a lack of professionalism. But since this wasn't professional I'm not sure I had a right to be annoyed. But I was because I wanted to make something good as well. I don't like the film industry. It's full of pricks and you have to lick their arses clean to get anywhere. Doing this has been a real eye opener for me. I enjoyed doing this so much, much more than doing unpaid work on another film set. I got annoyed on that other film set by the lack of some people's unprofessionalism, but I got annoyed at them also because they were pricks. And I saw the end result of one of the films and it was bloody awful. When I see the work to result ratio on that film I can say for sure that it wasn't worth it. legend of Mattress, however, is a fucking masterpiece.

This weekend involved film editing, jogging, Westfield, Poons PAing (finally got a seat in the Shepherds Bush one), Junior Eurovision, Nando's, Troc, cinema, and 1 Vs 100.
Legend of Mattress is very nearly finished. Me and Lap really should be sick of it by now, but we still find ourselves rolling about in laughter when clipping together a couple of bits works well. This is either a sign of it's greatness, or a sign of our mental istability.
The weather on Saturday was pretty good. Got dull and very rainy later, but it was fresh and sunny for jogging in the Morning. Christian has become allergic to London though D:
The Junior Eurovision winner was crap, but at least the song is from a country close to us. Netherlands 2G10! Still hoping to get tickets to the grown-up Eurovision is Olso though :D
Yesterday I met up with my cousin Zoe and she took me to Nando's.
This was her own idea, though it was based on what she's seen me do on Facebook, as she's admitted that she doesn't think she's been before. She liked it (even though she's a veggie, so didn't really get the full taste!).
After this I met up with Christian and Annabel, we went to see A Serious Man which is good, but leaves you with a bit of a "huh?" feeling.
Christian and Annabel also claimed watching the film made them feel high :p
This week is a single day working week, meaning that in just over 3 hours I'll be out, not coming back here until the Monday of next week :D
This'll probably be my last LJ entry as a 27 year old. Crazy how time passes, but I'm still having fun, so fuck it!
Looking forward to seeing people, and getting up to stuff over the next few days :}

To commiserate the recent passing of John & Edward Grimes from our Saturday evening communal conciousness, I've made an iTunes playlist:
Robbie Williams - Rock DJ
Britney Spears - Oops, I Did It Again
Ricky Martin - She Bangs
Queen - We Will Rock You
Ray Parker Jr. - Ghostbusters
Queen - Under Pressure
Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby
WHAM! - I'm Your Man
I'd like to take this opportunity to personally take the blame for their departure, having only voted for them once last night, and while I'm annoyed that I simply can not see them at G-A-Y next weekend, let's hope their inevitable blossoming recording career will allow me to go see them live in the not too distant future.
